The CONSEQUENCES of sin

Genesis 3:6-7

King James Version

6 And when the woman saw

that the tree was good for food,

and that it was pleasant to the eyes,

and a tree to be desired to make one wise,

she took of the fruit thereof,

and did eat,

and gave also unto her husband with her;

and he did eat.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened,

and they knew that they were naked;

and they sewed fig leaves together,

and made themselves aprons.

Man had lost all grace from God, the day he accepted that forbidden fruit from woman, when she was beguiled by the serpent.

And this is what God told her:

Genesis 3:16 (KJV)

16 Unto the woman he said,

I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception;

in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children;

and thy desire shall be to thy husband,

and he shall rule over thee.

Unto the man, God said:

Genesis 3:17-19 (KJV)

17 And unto Adam he said,

Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife,

and hast eaten of the tree,

of which I commanded thee, saying,

Thou shalt not eat of it:

cursed is the ground for thy sake;

in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee;

and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread,

till thou return unto the ground;

for out of it wast thou taken:

for dust thou art,

and unto dust shalt thou return.

And to the serpent, God declared:

Genesis 3:14-15 (KJV)

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent,

Because thou hast done this,

 thou art cursed above all cattle,

 and above every beast of the field;

upon thy belly shalt thou go,

and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,

and between thy seed and her seed;

it shall bruise thy head,

and thou shalt bruise his heel.

In the days of Noah, God grieved because of violence on earth.

Genesis 6:6-8 (KJV)

6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth,

and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the Lord said,

I will destroy man whom I have created

from the face of the earth;

both man,

and beast,

and the creeping thing,

and the fowls of the air;

for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

You do know about the flood, don't you?

Genesis 7:23 (KJV)

23 And every living substance was destroyed

which was upon the face of the ground

both man,

and cattle,

and the creeping things,

and the fowl of the heaven;

and they were destroyed from the earth:

and Noah only remained alive,

and they that were with him in the ark.

Since then, iniquity from the father has been passed on to the third, and fourth, generations.

Exodus 34:6-7 (KJV)

6 And the Lord passed by before him,

and proclaimed,

The Lord,

The Lord God,

merciful and gracious,

longsuffering,

and abundant in goodness and truth,

7 Keeping mercy for thousands,

forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,

and that will by no means clear the guilty;

visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children,

and upon the children's children,

unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Sin is disobedience.

It is hatred for God and His laws.

In turn, this is God's justice, as in the sin of idolatry -- a grievous sin in the eyes of the Lord:

Deuteronomy 5:9 (KJV)

9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them,

nor serve them:

for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God,

visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children

unto the third and fourth generation

of them that hate me

To cleanse men from their sins, a "trespass offering" was made in the days of Moses.

Leviticus 5:14-19 (KJV)

14 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

15 If a soul commit a trespass,

and sin through ignorance,

in the holy things of the Lord;

then he shall bring for his trespass unto the Lord

a ram without blemish out of the flocks

with thy estimation by shekels of silver,

after the shekel of the sanctuary,

for a trespass offering.

16 And he shall make amends for the harm

that he hath done in the holy thing,

and shall add the fifth part thereto,

and give it unto the priest:

and the priest shall make an atonement for him

with the ram of the trespass offering,

and it shall be forgiven him.

17 And if a soul sin,

and commit any of these things

which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the Lord;

though he wist it not,

yet is he guilty,

and shall bear his iniquity.

18 And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock,

with thy estimation,

for a trespass offering,

unto the priest:

and the priest shall make an atonement for him

concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not,

and it shall be forgiven him.

19 It is a trespass offering:

he hath certainly trespassed against the Lord.

And now?

A lamb of a different sort was offered.

The next post reveals more.
