INSTRUMENTS of righteousness

Romans 6:13

King James Version

13 Neither yield ye your members

as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin:

but yield yourselves unto God,

as those that are alive from the dead,

and your members

as instruments of righteousness

unto God.

We are to be used as instruments of righteousness, for GOD's purpose.

But what did apostle Paul mean when he mentioned "members" in this particular verse?

As always, we turn to other Bible versions, for greater clarity.

Romans 6:13

Amplified Bible

13 Do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness. But offer yourselves to God [in a decisive act] as those alive [raised] from the dead [to a new life], and your members [all of your abilities—sanctified, set apart] as instruments of righteousness [yielded] to God.

Romans 6:13

Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

13 Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and [a]faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual] life, and your bodily members [and [b]faculties] to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness.

Romans 6:13

Christian Standard Bible

13 And do not offer any parts[a] of it to sin as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God, and all the parts of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness.

Romans 6:13

Complete Jewish Bible

13 and do not offer any part of yourselves to sin as an instrument for wickedness. On the contrary, offer yourselves to God as people alive from the dead, and your various parts to God as instruments for righteousness.

Romans 6:13

Contemporary English Version

13 or let any part of it become a slave of evil. Give yourselves to God, as people who have been raised from death to life. Make every part of your body a slave that pleases God.

Romans 6:13

Disciples’ Literal New Testament

13 nor be presenting your body-parts to sin as instruments[a] of unrighteousness. But present yourselves to God as-if [b] being alive from the dead, and your body-parts to God as instruments of righteousness.

Romans 6:13

Expanded Bible

13 Do not offer ·the parts of your body [or any part of yourself; L your parts/members] to serve sin, as ·things to be used in doing [L instruments/weapons of] ·evil [unrighteousness; injustice]. Instead, offer yourselves to God as people who have died and now live. Offer ·the parts of your body [or every part of yourself; L your parts/members] to God ·to be used in doing good [L as instruments/weapons of righteousness/justice].

Romans 6:13

Good News Translation

13 Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.

Romans 6:13

International Children’s Bible

13 Do not offer the parts of your body to serve sin. Do not use your bodies as things to do evil with, but offer yourselves to God. Be like people who have died and now live. Offer the parts of your body to God to be used for doing good.

Romans 6:13-14

J.B. Phillips New Testament

12-14 Do not, then, allow sin to establish any power over your mortal bodies in making you give way to your lusts. Nor hand over your organs to be, as it were, weapons of evil for the devil’s purposes. But, like men rescued from certain death, put yourselves in God’s hands as weapons of good for his own purposes. For sin is not meant to be your master—you are no longer living under the Law, but under grace.

Romans 6:13

Living Bible

13 Do not let any part of your bodies become tools of wickedness, to be used for sinning; but give yourselves completely to God—every part of you—for you are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes.

Romans 6:13

Modern English Version

13 Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but yield yourselves to God, as those who are alive from the dead, and your bodies to God as instruments of righteousness.

Romans 6:13

Names of God Bible

13 Never offer any part of your body to sin’s power. No part of your body should ever be used to do any ungodly thing. Instead, offer yourselves to God as people who have come back from death and are now alive. Offer all the parts of your body to God. Use them to do everything that God approves of.

Romans 6:13

New International Version

13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.

Romans 6:13

New Living Translation

13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.

Romans 6:13

New Testament for Everyone

13 Nor should you present your limbs and organs to sin to be used for its wicked purposes. Rather, present yourselves to God, as people alive from the dead, and your limbs and organs to God, to be used for the righteous purposes of his covenant.

Kehillah in Rome 6:13

Orthodox Jewish Bible

13 And do not give Chet (sin) control of your natural capacities as neshek (weapons) of peysha (unrighteousness, transgression), but present yourselves to Hashem as ones alive from the Mesim and present to Hashem your natural capacities as neshek (weapons) of Tzedek Olamim.

On walking CIRCUMSPECTLY

Ephesians 5:15

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly,

not as fools, but as wise,

What does it mean to walk "circumspectly"?

To complete this verse, we include HOW to walk "circumspectly":

Ephesians 5:15-21

King James Version

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly,

not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time,

because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise,

but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine,

wherein is excess;

but be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves

in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,

singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

LOOKING into Halloween

Luke 16:15

King James Version

15 And he said unto them,

Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;

but God knoweth your hearts:

for that which is highly esteemed among men

is abomination in the sight of God.

It will be Halloween soon.

October 31, in fact.

Celebrated all over the world.

But do we really know what it stands for?

Are children of GOD supposed to celebrate it?

"Aw, c'mon now, don't be a spoilsport," you'd probably say.

Well, I'm born again.

I live by the Bible.

I only follow the LORD's commands.

I only care to know His laws right.

I only aim to share right gospel with you.

Here's what Chuck Missler says about Halloween:

Halloween: Invitation to the Occult? Session 2

That video shares many verses from the Bible, telling us about God's ways, will, and commands.

It's really time for us to take heed of the LORD's commands.

What is popular in the world, doesn't necessarily mean it's acceptable to GOD.

If anything, it's OFTEN in complete opposition to what GOD wants us to do.

Romans 12:2

King James Version

2 And be not conformed to this world:

but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is that good,

and acceptable,

and perfect,

will of God.

The WEDDING guest

Revelation 19:7

King James Version

7 Let us be glad and rejoice,

and give honour to him:

for the marriage of the Lamb is come,

and his wife hath made herself ready.

We have been called to a wedding feast.

And it's not just an ordinary wedding feast.

The king himself called us to attend.

What would be a proper attire for such a wedding?

How shall we conduct ourselves?

Let SPIRIT and SCRIPTURE explain.

JESUS tells us a parable, of a king, who was preparing a wedding feast for his son:

Matthew 22:2-7

King James Version

2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king,

which made a marriage for his son,

3 And sent forth his servants to call them

that were bidden to the wedding:

and they would not come.

4 Again,

he sent forth other servants, saying,

Tell them which are bidden,

Behold,

I have prepared my dinner:

my oxen and my fatlings are killed,

and all things are ready:

come unto the marriage.

5 But they made light of it,

and went their ways,

one to his farm,

another to his merchandise:

6 And the remnant took his servants,

and entreated them spitefully,

and slew them.

Matthew 22:7-10

King James Version

7 But when the king heard thereof,

he was wroth:

and he sent forth his armies,

and destroyed those murderers,

and burned up their city.

8 Then saith he to his servants,

The wedding is ready,

but they which were bidden were not worthy.

9 Go ye therefore into the highways,

and as many as ye shall find,

bid to the marriage.

10 So those servants went out into the highways,

and gathered together all as many as they found,

both bad and good:

and the wedding was furnished with guests.

Matthew 22:11-12

King James Version

11 And when the king came in to see the guests,

he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

12 And he saith unto him,

Friend, how camest thou in hither

not having a wedding garment?

And he was speechless.

Matthew 22:13-14

King James Version

13 Then said the king to the servants,

Bind him hand and foot,

and take him away,

and cast him into outer darkness,

there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many are called,

but few are chosen.

Before you think the king, harsh, know more about the SYMBOLISM of the wedding feast:

The king is GOD.

Psalm 47:6-7

King James Version

6 Sing praises to God,

sing praises:

sing praises unto our King,

sing praises.

7 For God is the King of all the earth:

sing ye praises with understanding.

The son is JESUS.

2 Corinthians 11:2

King James Version

2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy:

for I have espoused you to one husband,

that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

The bride is the church, the new Jerusalem.

Ephesians 5:25-27

King James Version

25 Husbands,

love your wives,

even as Christ also loved the church,

and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it

with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church,

not having spot,

or wrinkle,

or any such thing;

but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Revelation 21:2

King James Version

2 And I John saw the holy city,

new Jerusalem,

coming down from God out of heaven,

prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Revelation 21:9-10

King James Version

9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels

which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues,

and talked with me, saying,

Come hither,

I will shew thee the bride,

the Lamb's wife.

10 And he carried me away in the spirit

to a great and high mountain,

and shewed me that great city,

the holy Jerusalem,

descending out of heaven from God,

The wedding feast is the KINGDOM of GOD.

Matthew 22:2

King James Version

2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king,

which made a marriage for his son,

Romans 14:17

King James Version

17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink;

but righteousness,

and peace,

and joy in the Holy Ghost.

The guests are us.

Luke 14:8-11

King James Version

8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding,

sit not down in the highest room;

lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee,

Give this man place;

and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 But when thou art bidden,

go and sit down in the lowest room;

that when he that bade thee cometh,

he may say unto thee,

Friend, go up higher:

 then shalt thou have worship

in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased;

and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Would we have the RIGHT garment for the wedding?

Revelation 19:8

King James Version

8 And to her was granted

that she should be arrayed in fine linen,

clean and white:

for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

Revelation 3:5

King James Version

5 He that overcometh,

the same shall be clothed in white raiment;

and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,

but I will confess his name before my Father,

and before his angels.

Psalm 15

King James Version

15 Lord,

who shall abide in thy tabernacle?

who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness,

and speaketh the truth in his heart.

3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue,

nor doeth evil to his neighbour,

nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned;

but he honoureth them that fear the Lord.

He that sweareth to his own hurt,

and changeth not.

5 He that putteth not out his money to usury,

nor taketh reward against the innocent.

He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

John 3:3

King James Version

3 Jesus answered and said unto him,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born again,

he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:5-7

King James Version

5 Jesus answered,

Verily, verily, I say unto thee,

Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh;

and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

Matthew 18:3

King James Version

3 And said,

Verily I say unto you,

Except ye be converted,

and become as little children,

ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Hebrews 12:14

King James Version

14 Follow peace with all men,

and holiness,

without which no man shall see the Lord:

1 Thessalonians 5:23

King James Version

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly;

and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body

be preserved blameless

unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If we are attired properly -- with the RIGHT heart for GOD -- then we are welcome to the wedding feast, the kingdom of GOD!

Revelation 19:9

King James Version

9 And he saith unto me,

Write,

Blessed are they which are called

unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.

And he saith unto me,

These are the true sayings of God.

It is not an earthly dress we will be wearing.

We must be born of the Spirit, clothed in holiness.

That we may be worthy of the LORD.

John 4:24

King James Version

24 God is a Spirit:

and they that worship him

must worship him in spirit and in truth.
